I recently decided to record the opening section of my Practical Charts online course as a 70-minute video for workshop participants to watch before live, online workshops begin. I did this for two reasons:
Moving this content out of live workshops frees up time during those four half-day sessions for more group exercises and discussions, which are where much of the deep comprehension and retention happens.
While Practical Charts workshops are highly interactive, this opening section tends to be less so as we dispel common misconceptions and set up important frameworks that will be filled in during the rest of the course.
I decided to make this video publicly accessible on YouTube since it works well as a stand-alone presentation, it would be a headache for workshop participants to access if it were behind a password and, to be perfectly candid, it will probably act as a lead generator for future workshops.
The video covers…
A brief intro to me and the Practical Charts course
Nine common data visualization myths
The six reasons why charts fail
A brief overview of the major topics to be covered in the rest of the course
If you’d like to take the full Practical Charts course, you can register for one of my public, open-registration workshops. If 15 or more people in your organization would like to take the course, please contact my colleague, Bryan Pierce, at info@practicalreporting.com to discuss an online private workshop.
Enjoy the video!
